World Cup 2022 squad

The 2022 World Cup squads may consist of a maximum of 23 players. Before the match, each team must provide a list with the entire squad consisting of 11 basic players, 12 substitutes and 11 staff members.

So a maximum of 12 substitutes and 11 assistants may sit on the bench. Suspended players are of course not allowed to sit on the bench and doping is strictly prohibited and all players from the squad can be tested after the game.

The complete squad must arrive at the stadium at least 1.5 hours before kick-off. At least one team doctor must be present at all times. The warm-up may last 30 minutes and will take place 50 minutes to 20 minutes before kick-off.

During the match, the referee is allowed to take a drinking break, as it can be quite hot in Qatar. One additional substitution may be made in the event of an extension of the match, regardless of whether a team has already made the maximum number of substitutions.
