What do European countries need to qualify?
What do the countries need to qualify? The final round of matches is starting, and only two European countries have qualified for the 2022 World Cup.
13 countries from Europe will be present in Qatar, and Germany and Denmark are the only ones to be sure of their place. Another 8 group winners qualify through this qualifier and 3 countries go through play-offs.
Playoffs Qualifying
The play-offs are played by the 10 numbers two from the groups, accompanied by 2 group winners from the Nations League.
The 7 group winners of the Nations League are:
- France
- Spain
- Italy
- Belgium
- Wales
- Austria
- Czech Republic
Belgium and Italy are already assured of second place in the qualifying group, so they will not go via the UNL route.
Group I with England
England has 20 points, while Poland has collected 17 points. Given the schedule of the English (Albania and San Marino) it is likely that they will be the group winner.
Poland still plays against Andorra and Hungary. With 2 points ahead of Albania, the Poles are in their own hands, otherwise Albania will go to the play-offs.
Group E with Belgium
Belgium is 5 points ahead of the Czech Republic and Wales. If the Red Devils take at least one point in the next game against Estonia, they are assured of participation in the 2022 World Cup.
The Czech Republic and Wales have the same number of points and it may come down to goal difference. The Czechs have a two-goal advantage. The countries will not meet again in the coming international period.
Group G with the Netherlands
The Netherlands is the leader in group G, with a 2 point lead over Norway and 4 over Turkey. The Orange therefore has to take points in both games to be sure of a place at the World Cup in Qatar.
The Netherlands and Norway will play their last match against each other, with the Dutch national team possibly having enough of a point.
Turkey still plays against Gibraltar and Montenegro, and could therefore take over the second place. This gives the Turks a chance to participate in the play-offs.
Group J with Germany
Germany is already certain of the group win with 21 points, with which the Germans are directly qualified for the 2022 World Cup.
The numbers 2 to 4 are very close to each other: Romania has 13 points and Macedonia and Armenia both have 12 points. It will therefore be very exciting in the last matches in the battle for second place, which entitles them to participate in the play-off matches.
