Russia officially hands over the World Cup to Qatar
Russia has handed over the World Football Championship to Qatar. " We have fallen in love with Russia. I am sure we will also love Qatar, " says Gianni Infantino.
Russian president Vladimir Putin, Emir of Qatar Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and FIFA president Gianni Infantino participated in the ceremony to transfer the organization of the World Cup from Russia to Qatar.
The three gathered in the Georgievsky Hall of the Grand Kremlin Palace, and used the official match ball of the knockout phase as a symbol for the transfer . Putin gave the Adidas Telstar Mechta personally to the Emir of Qatar.
The next World Cup will be held in the winter of 2022 (from November 21 to December 18).
