Qatar and FIFA are consulting for the first time
The Qatar 2022 Supreme Committee and FIFA had their first meeting this week, with members from both organizations discussing all sorts of issues regarding the World Cup in Qatar in 2022.
The FIFA delegation consisted of Competition Director Mustapha Fahmy, Marketing Director Thierry Weil, TV Director Niclas Ericscon and Communication and Publicity Director Walter de Gregorio. The Qatar 2022 Supreme Committee was led by Secretary General Hassan Al Thawadi. They held a number of presentations on the various projects that Qatar is going to set up for the 2022 World Cup.
The meeting was FIFA's first visit to Qatar since the bidding procedure for the allocation of the Football World Cup. Fahmy indicated to be impressed by the preparations that Qatar has already made at this stage. According to him, the Qatar 2022 Supreme Committee is very enthusiastic and committed to making the World Football Championship in 2022 something perfect, so that the first World Cup in the Middle East becomes unforgettable.
Thawadi said he was happy with the visit of FIFA and their attention to the first presentations. According to him, the meeting is of great importance for the further process towards the 2022 World Cup, so that all noses are heading in the same direction. Qatar attaches great importance to good preparation, even though the World Cup in Qatar is still 10 years into the future. Meetings contribute to a good foundation for the rest of the organization.
Other stakeholders who attended the presentations were delegates from New Doha International Airport, Qatar Rail, the Gulf Organization for Research and Development, Qatar Foundation and Qatar ' s Central Planning Office. The FIFA team also visited various important places in the host country, including the Aspire Academy For Sports Excellence and the new Qatar National Convenyion Center. This last building is an important element during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
